Jonathan Schooler, BA, MS, PhD

Jonathan is a Distinguished Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of California Santa Barbara, and director of UCSB’s Center for Mindfulness and Human Potential. He earned his BA from Hamilton College in 1981 and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1987. His research on human cognition explores big picture topics that intersect philosophy and psychology, including mind wandering, mindfulness, creativity, curiosity, and the nature of consciousness. He has over 200 publications in scientific outlets that have garnered over 35,000 citations. A former holder of a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, his research and comments are frequently featured in major media outlets such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Nature Magazine, and he has appeared on television shows including Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman and BBC Horizon.
